According to a report rolled out by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio, a telecom company that is owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, is quickly making its way to the helm of the telecom industry in India. As per the report, Jio has been increasing its subscriber base rapidly, while its main competitors Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have been dropping subscribers at alarming rates. In January 2019, Ambani’s Jio added 9.3 million subscribers while telecom leader in India, Vodafone Idea, lost 3.5 million subscribers. However, Vodafone Idea maintains a subscriber base of 384 million, which keeps them at the top for having the most number of subscribers in the telecom industry in India.
In the second place comes Jio with a total subscriber base of 290 million, and the company expects to hit 310 million customers by the end of March 2019. A warning bell for Bharti Airtel, which has been overtaken by Jio in a short span, has managed to add just over a lakh subscribers, taking its total subscriber base to 285 million.
