SBI, the largest lender in the country, has issued a deadline for customers to register their mobile numbers in order to be eligible to use the internet banking services offered by the bank. As per a notice issued by the bank on its official website, customers have to register their numbers with their home branch by the 1st of December 2018.
Failure to register the number before the mentioned date could lead to the internet banking services of such individuals being blocked.
SBI’s directive comes on the heels of a circular released by the Reserve Bank of India in July last year. The circular mandated banks to register their customers to receive email and SMS alerts for banking transactions.
SBI customers who wish to check whether their number is registered with the bank can do so by following a few simple steps. They are to login to the official website of SBI and navigate to the ‘My account’ tab. They then have to click on the ‘Profile’ tab and choose the tab which says ‘Personal details’. They are then expected to provide their profile password, post which their registered mobile number will be shown.
Individuals who are yet to register their mobile numbers can do so by visiting the home branch in which they have an account.
