Telecom major Reliance Jio has expanded its customer base to 300 million users as per various sources. The company achieved this feat within a period of just two-and-a-half years. Sources indicate that Jio achieved this milestone on 2 March 2019.
Though Jio did not issue an official statement regarding this matter, its television ads for the current IPL season has shown that the company is celebrating its 300 million users. Reliance Jio currently holds the record for the fastest telecom company in the world to achieve 100 million subscribers. The company achieved this record within just 170 days of starting its operation.
With this achievement, the company holds its position as the third-largest telecom company in India next to Vodafone and Airtel. According to regulatory filings, Bharti Airtel reportedly has a customer base of over 340 million as of December 2018. However, its earnings report released in December 2018 revealed only 284 million subscribers for the company.
The regulatory filings indicated that Bharti Airtel had 340.3 million customers as of January 2018. It took Bharti Airtel about 19 years to expand its customer base to 300 million.
Vodafone Idea continues to remain the top player in the Indian telecom industry. Sources indicate that the company has more than 400 million subscribers throughout the country. Vodafone achieved this record following its merger with Idea Cellular in August 2018. While Vodafone and Airtel continue to be top players, Reliance Jio is narrowing the gap by expanding its customer base at record phase.
