Ms. P.V. Bharathi, who served as the executive director of Canara Bank until recently, has taken charge as the managing director and chief executive officer of Corporation Bank. A release issued by Corporation Bank stated that she was the first woman to serve in this capacity.
Ms. Bharathi has over 37 years of experience in the Indian banking industry. She was appointed as Canara Bank’s executive director in September 2016. She headed a number of departments in Canara Bank including corporate credit, human resources, retail banking, recovery, credit monitoring, risk management, audit and inspection, information and technology, treasury, international banking, etc.
She was appointed as a non-executive director of Can Fin Homes Limited in September 2014. Further, she was also associated with Canbank Venture Capital Limited as its director board member.
Ms. Bharathi, who holds a Masters in Economics, is a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
Corporation Bank registered a net profit to the tune of Rs.103 crore in the second quarter of FY19. The bank’s total income stood at Rs.4,216.79 crore during the period under review, in comparison to a sum of Rs.5,344.59 crore in the year-ago period.
