India was declared as the 6th wealthiest country in the world based on a survey conducted by the AfrAsia Bank Global Wealth Migration Review in 2017 to determine the top 10 richest countries in the world.
The United States of America secured the 1st place in the list, making it the wealthiest country in the world with a total wealth of $62,584 billion while, India secured the 6th position in the list with a total wealth of $8,230 billion. As per the Oxfam survey conducted in 2017, the richest people in India constitute 1 per cent of the country’s total population and own around 73 per cent of the country’s total generated wealth. The total wealth of India increased by 25 per cent in 2017, jumping from $6,584 billion in 2016 to $8,230 billion.

The total wealth, which is taken as the primary denominator by the AfrAsia Bank Global Wealth Migration Review for the survey, is the sum total of wealth held by each citizen living in the country. To calculate the total wealth for each country the survey took the liabilities into account as well and excluded the government funds completely from the equation.
