With 31 March, 2018, being the last day for individuals to file their taxes for the Financial Year 2016-2017, the Income Tax offices across the country have decided to stay open between March 29-March 31, despite March 29 and March 30 being Government holidays. The Finance Ministry released a statement saying that Income Tax offices across the country will remain open to allow taxpayers to file their returns, keeping in mind that March 31, 2018, is the last day to file taxes for the previous financial year. The Finance Ministry said that not only will the Income Tax Offices remain open but also the Aayakar Seva Kendras (ASKs) – which will do their best to offer assistance to taxpayers that wish to file their taxes for the Financial Year of 2016-2017. The decision was made though other Government offices as well as banks across the country will close their doors on account of Mahavir Jayanti (March 29) and Good Friday which falls on March 30th. That said, the due date for filing taxes for the Financial Year 2017-2018 for individuals is 31 July, 2018, whereas for businesses, the due date for filing taxes for the Financial Year 2017-2018 is set for 30 September, 2018.
