The food delivery and restaurant finder application, Zomato, hired Mohit Gupta as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its online food delivery division. Gupta was previously the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MakeMyTrip, an online travel services company.
The appointment of the new CEO was done after Zomato witnessed the exit of a few of its senior executives over the past few months. Early this year, Pankaj Chaddah resigned as the co-founder of the food discovery application to follow better opportunities. Mukund Kulashekaran quit as the Chief Business Officer of the company last month.
Gupta’s responsibility as the CEO of the food delivery division at Zomato will be to induce growth and track profit and loss of the business. Mohit Kumar, who formerly headed the food ordering division will now concentrate on developing the logistics of the food delivery division.
Apart from Mohit Gupta, the Gurgaon-based company had hired other senior executives earlier. In the month of May, the company had hired Sameer Maheshwary, a former executive of GE India, as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company. Also, it appointed Rohithari Rajan, former executive at Egon Zhender, as the head of advertising.
Mohit Gupta studied in IIM Calcutta and worked at PepsiCo International. Eight years later i.e in 2008, he joined MakeMyTrip. He played an important role in developing the marketing department of the company which is now a leader in the travel services business.
Gupta believes in Zomato’s vision and is excited to be a part of the team. He looks forward to watching Zomato grow as a company.
