The battle between Amazon and Flipkart to reign over the Indian eCommerce segment has thrown an unlikely winner, you, the customer, with both organisations prepping up for a huge battle of discounts.

Buyers can expect discounts as high as 80% during the sale.

Flipkart, known for its ‘Big Billion Days’ sale will offer heavy discounts on products across platforms for five days, from May 14 to May 18. Titled ‘Big 10’, it is the company’s way to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Amazon, not to be caught napping will also offer discounts under the ‘Great Indian Sale’. This sale will go on from May 11 to May 14.

Buyers can expect discounts as high as 80 per cent on select items, with both companies asking their sellers to cut prices. Sellers who fear losses will be compensated by being charged lower margins.

The sales will cover products across different categories, right from consumer electronics to smartphones, clothes, accessories and more.

Flipkart, which began the Big Billion Days sale in 2014 will aim to replicate the success it had last year. The company managed to sell over 15.5 million units during the last sale in October 2016. Rival Amazon, was not far behind, with 15 million units sold during its Great Indian Sale.

The sales, uncharacteristic for this period would help the companies establish supremacy in the Indian eCommerce market. Both Amazon and Flipkart are stocking up on inventory to ensure that they do not run out of stock, with Amazon recently opening new warehouses in the country.

Myntra, owned by Flipkart will also offer discounts between May 14 and May 18, giving Flipkart a slight edge over Amazon.

With talks of Snapdeal’s sale to Flipkart doing the rounds, the Indian company will aim to establish itself as the biggest eCommerce brand in India. The recent acquisition of eBay India and a $1.4 billion investment could help it take on the larger, richer Amazon.

Buyers can also expect cashback offers on certain products, giving a boost to digital payments.
