Travelling by train will become cheaper on certain routes, with the Railways cutting the price of tickets for AC coaches and chair cars in 5 trains. These trains belong to the southwestern category.
Prices for the trains coming from Gadag, Mysuru, and Bengaluru have been cut by as much as Rs.235. The Railways hopes that this will help increase the number of people travelling by these trains.
Following the price cut, the AC fare for Gadag-Mumbai Express between Kalburgi and Solapur is now Rs.435, as per a report by Business Today. The AC fares for the Mysuru-Shirdi Express have been cut by Rs.235, with the new fare being Rs.260.
AC fares for the Yesvantpur-Hubbali Weekly Express have been cut by Rs.145, with the new fare being RS.735. Similarly, the new fare for the Yesvantpur-Secunderabad Express is Rs.305. The fare for 3-AC on the Yesvantpur-Bikaner Express have been cut by Rs.145.
These new rates will be effective later in the year.
In addition to the fare cuts, the Railways is also looking to create awareness about the heritage of Indian Railways. The Union Ministry of Railways launched digital screens at 22 stations towards this end. These screens will play short movie clips depicting the legacy of the railways.
