Last Tuesday, EPFO, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization clarified that having an Aadhaar number is mandatory for final settlement of pension claims and scheme certificates.
According to an EPFO circular issued on Tuesday, “It is reiterated that the requirement of submitting Aadhaar is not insisted for the time being only in withdrawal benefit (10 C) cases under Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995. Furnishing of Aadhaar is still mandatory for final settlement of pension (10 D) and scheme certificate cases. ”
However, the requirement of submitting Aadhaar is currently not mandatory for pension withdrawal cases as per the withdrawal benefit norms under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization has extended the date of submission of Aadhaar Number submission/authentication up to March 31, 2017. Almost 50 lakh pensioners and 4 crore subscribers are expected to submit their Aadhaar numbers within the given time frame.
In the beginning of the year 2017, the Employees Provident Fund Organization had made the submission of Aadhaar number compulsory for pensioners/subscribers to help them enjoy the benefits of various social security schemes.
